FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is henna?
Henna is a plant that produces a dye molecule which colors the outer layers of the skin. The leaves of the henna plant are dried, ground and sifted before being mixed into a paste.
What is henna paste?
100% fresh organic henna powder sourced from Rajasthan, India which is mixed with water, sugar and a unique blend of cajeput, geranium and lavender essential oils. Do you have known skin sensitivities or allergies? Tell me about them when you schedule your appointment.
How long does the henna stain last on the skin?
Henna designs last between one to three weeks before they fade completely off the body. Every skin tone is different, and the hands are the most potent on the body to ensure a deep, rich stain.
What is black henna?
There is no such things as "Black Henna." What often goes by the name of Black Henna usually contains PPD (para-phenylenediamine) which is a black chemical dye often found in hair dyes. PPD, which stains the skin jet black, is not safe for the body. PPD is a toxin that can get into the bloodstream through the skin, and the use of PPD for body art is unethical. Rest assured that there is no PPD or any other chemical dye used in henna paste from Ritual By Design.
When do I schedule my mani/pedi vs. henna?
Get your manicure and pedicure done before your henna application, and please don't schedule your appointments the other way around. Also, wax your hands and feet a day or two before your appointment to allow for easier application of the henna paste.
How can I take care of my henna design so that it lasts longer?
Keep the henna paste on for 6 hours or longer to ensure a deeper stain. Also you will want to avoid water contact on that part of the body for at least 12 hours. Do not scrape the dried henna paste off the area of your body when you are ready to remove, but simply crumble it away. Take photos of your fresh new henna stain and make sure to tag @ritualbydesign
